Linworth is unique in that it has a judicial system that students and staff can use to settle conflicts between any two parties. Initially called Fairness Committee, it was adopted by the Linworth community in December of 1995. An alternative school such as Linworth that promotes the idea of independence and responsibility would naturally, over time, need a way for students and staff to solve problems. When a student or staff member feels that a school rule has been violated, students and staff have a procedure in place to resolve related issues. In the same way, if a student doesn't think the way a teacher is treating them is fair, they can take the staff member to the judicial committee. One of the purposes of the judicial committee is not to resolve all issues, but instead, force those individuals in conflict to communicate and settle the dispute first. If that doesn't work, they take the dispute to the committee. The committee listens to both sides of the story. The committee then privately meets to make a decision on resolving the issue. The committee can recommend a verbal alternative to the conflict or they can decide on some type of consequence. This consequence can be just a clarification of the issue or having the disputants do something differently.

Fairness Committee was introduced to the school by Pat Zumhagen. For an Interim project, Pat took a group of students to Scarsdale Alternative High School in New York to observe the school and how it compared with Linworth. The Scarsdale Alternative School was generally like Linworth. One of the things Pat especially liked that she saw there was something called the Judicial Review. The Judicial Review system was used as a guideline for the current judicial system used by Linworth. Pat worked with a group of students and worked on the committee. After presenting their final plan to the rest of the staff, they took the idea to Town Meeting for a vote. The Town Meeting decided for a ballot vote because it was very important. With a majority vote of the people, Fairness Committee went into action.
